Scientific research, technological development and innovation are elements that are today more vital than ever to the growth and competitiveness of a chemical manufacturing company and, consequently, determine the extent of its success over time. On the basis of this axiom, the philosophy of Mythen is to dedicate substantial efforts to these sectors, both from a human and a financial point of view.
Research is geared to two courses of action:
~    the upgrading of the manufacturing processes already in use;
~    the developing of new technologies.

At the Ferrandina site Mythen uses technologies that have been developed within its own corporate structure under the constant guidance of the Industrial, Technical and Laboratory Management. Today Mythen boasts processing technologies that are unique in the world.
Since September 2006 Mythen has been collaborating in medium/long-term research activities with the faculty of Industrial Chemistry of Milan, the Milan Polytechnic and the University Federico II in Naples. Such collaborations were promoted as a result of the importance that Mythen places on research, and confirm the high standards of quality already achieved.
          

The laboratory of Ferrandina

 The Mythen laboratory of Research and Quality Control at Ferrandina employs numerous technicians, including graduates of chemistry and industrial chemistry and specialised operators.
In addition to its research activity the laboratory of Ferrandina also plays an active role in customer assistance, in the context of which its has conducted a number of studies geared to the use of the products, focussing especially on biodiesel and its mixing with diesel fuel.
The laboratory also assists the manufacturing staff of the Ferrandina plant in the running of the works and the constant monitoring of the quality of the products. Thanks to its complete range of equipment the Mythen laboratory is capable of controlling in real time all the various phases of processing carried out at Ferrandina, inspection of the raw materials, the finished products and the environmental analyses (air and water).
 
The Mythen laboratory of Ferrandina employs in its complex 16 people and includes an area for organic syntheses, a technological area and an area for analyses and is fitted with highly advanced equipment, such as:
~    extraction columns
~    numerous reactors of varying volumetric capacity for high-pressure and normal syntheses;
~    distillation columns (one of Sulzer packings and one of plates);
~    Two HPLC;
~    Five GC;
~    one UV-visible spectrophotometer;
~    one IR spectrometer;
~    one ICP;
~    various devices for automatic titration, including two Karl Fischer titrators;
~    one colour temperature meter;
~    one digital densitometer;
~    one analytical balance and several technical balances;
~    one automatic machine for the calculation of cold filterability;
~    one atmospheric pressure distiller for petroleum products;
~    one high-precision thermostat.
