Mythen was founded in 2002 with the aim of setting up a ‘clean’ chemical industry project that would not only respect the environment but also be able to contribute to reducing environmental problems.


This aim of creating a ‘clean’ chemical industry project is pursued through the manufacture of biodiesel and other chemical products that use renewable raw materials such as oils of vegetable origin. From vegetable oils, in fact, a great number of biodegradable products can be obtained, which today may replace substances derived from petroleum and, therefore, critical for the environment.

The management of Mythen is made up of a team of individuals with undisputed experience in various fields of industrial chemistry (design and construction of plants, start-up, manufacturing, research and marketing).

2002 e 2003

In December of 2002 the company purchased the industrial site of Ferrandina in the province of Matera. The factory, which had remained inactive for around 8 years prior to its purchase by Mythen, was taken over by the bankruptcy trustee of the former company IRS.

The site contained all the infrastructures and equipment to be reconverted to the type of production that Mythen intended to undertake and used alongside the new equipment and machinery.

The first ten months of 2003 were dedicated to reactivating the plant and obtaining the necessary manufacturing authorisation. In October 2003 the company began to manufacture epoxidised soya bean oil, which was well received by the market.

Late 2003 marked the beginning of the first “batch” productions of biodiesel, which were to become continuous just a few months later at the beginning of 2004. After an amount of time necessary for setting up the commercial side of the business, the critical start-up period was considered concluded in the spring of 2004.

2004

In May 2004 Mythen concluded its first contract for the supply of biodiesel which, along with the sale of epoxidised soya bean oil, determined the positive start-up of the commercial activity.
In the summer of 2004 a new atmospheric pressure distillation plant was activated, followed in the winter by a new vacuum distillation plant.

2005

With the activating of the vacuum distillation plant Mythen entered the glycerine market in the spring of 2005.
In the early summer of 2005 Mythen began to sell its biodiesel also on Spanish and German markets.
The winter of 2005/2006 saw the conclusion of an important new phase of development of the storage tank complex with the activating of the first 800 mc storage tanks in the North complex.

2006

In the first months of 2006 Mythen achieved an important goal by connecting the Ferrandina plant to the railway network. For the first time in the history of the site, and the adjoining intermodal centre, the company was now able to profit from the constant and massive transportation of goods by rail.
To aid the distribution and supply of biodiesel to the Spanish market an investment was made in the context of the Decal coastal deposit of Barcelona and sales were initiated through the logistic system of in-line blending within the same deposit.
The summer of 2006 marked the activation of a new atmospheric pressure distillation plant to supplement the plant already in operation.
Also in the summer of 2006 the North storage tank complex was further enlarged with the activation of the 2,500 mc tanks.
